GREEN VENUE CERTIFICATION | Get Certified Now!

Green Music Australia’s Green Venue Certification program rewards and celebrates Music Venues who demonstrate a commitment towards environmental action and values.

By certifying your live music venue, you can promote your environmental credentials, helping you to connect with likeminded artists, industry, and audiences.

Participating venues will be measured against a range of key selection criteria including: Energy, Waste, Water, Food & Drink and Procurement. Once assessed, venues will be provided with a star rating based on their performance.

Certified venues will also be able to promote their venue as a certified Green Venue and be published in our Venues Directory.

Expressions of interest are now open for all NSW venues with official certification process commencing from October 2025.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why get certified?

There are plenty of reasons to get certified. By becoming a Green Certified Venue, you will be able to demonstrate through independent auditing that you are taking steps to reduce your venue’s environmental footprint.

Certified venues can use the official Green Venue Certified logo on their website and communications, promoting their eco-credentials to fans, artists, bookers and industry. You will also be promoted through Green Music Australia’s channels including to our network of artists and industry.

Many sustainability actions also have positive business impacts. Data from our sustainability reporting tool, Amidesi, has found that venues can decrease their energy bills and consumption more than 20% after implementing basic energy efficiency upgrades.

What is the process to being certified?

To get started, venues register their interest and then join a 1:1 consultation call with Green Music Australia. We will get to know your venue and recommend whether you are likely to achieve certification status.

We will send you a free copy of our Green Venue Guide, which provides step by step actions and resources on how you can take environmental action.

From there, you will be provided an interactive form with a variety of questions around energy, waste, procurement and your day to day operations. You will need to provide some evidence of your actions. Green Music Australia will be available to support you during this process.

Green Music Australia will then review your application and provide you with the outcome of your application.

How long will it take?

Completing the certification application should take no longer than one hour. You do not have  to complete the entire application in one sitting, the form will allow you to save your progress and continue at a later date.

What happens if I don’t score well?

If you do not score well enough to be certified, we will provide feedback, guidance and tips on how to improve your environmental impact.

Our Green Venue Guide has been developed in partnership with venues and industry to provide you with tools and tips to take practical action. We highly encourage venues who do not achieve certification to take further action and try again.

What is the cost?

Certification scheme has tiered pricing according to the size and capacity of the venue. We will send you pricing structure and details during the consultation call.

Do you accept venues outside of NSW?

The 2025 pilot program of the Venue Certification program is only available to NSW venues. We are hoping to use the findings and feedback from the pilot to expand the program into the future.

If you want to keep in the loop on the future expansion of the program, sign up to Synthesise our Music Industry newsletter on all things sustainability.

What data will you require?

Certified venues will be required to submit data such as their energy and waste bills to support their application. This data will be used to help benchmark your energy usage against other comparative venues.
