The two bands are the first in a series of artist merchandise collaborations raising vital funds to mobilise the music community for urgent climate action.
Each design over the six-month period will be available for pre-order for two weeks and manufactured on 100% recycled garments by Tmorrow Apparel and printed using water-based and eco-friendly inks via Merch Jungle. Profits from the sales will help to activate fans and musicians to speak up about the climate and advocate for the planet.
The “NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET” movement was launched in the UK in 2021 by Music Declares Emergency. The project invites the global music community to call for bold climate action, and activate the power of music fans to vote for the planet. To date, artists across the world have collaborated on the campaign including Billie Eilish, Thom Yorke, & Joy Division.
In 2022, Green Music Australia ran a local NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET campaign, reaching 7.4 million fans at live shows and across social media, with national coverage and support from artists like Tame Impala, Angie McMahon, and Jimmy Barnes.
Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers says of the collaboration, “In September, Jaida attended Green Music's Sound Country Retreat and it was a real eye-opener for us. It helped us see the impact we can make as artists committed to environmental change. As a band, we want to lead by example in the sustainability space. The NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET message is a powerful reminder that without a healthy planet, there’s no future for any of us—or for music. For us, it's about ensuring that the art we create isn’t at the expense of the world we all share.”
Rob Hirst of Midnight Oil says, “With climate change leadership set to fail in the U.S.A., it’s even more urgent for the rest of the world to step up. Green Music Australia says ‘stay the course with renewables’, and I’m proud to be a patron of this progressive and positive organisation.”
Green Music Australia CEO Berish Bilander says of the fundraiser, "We are thrilled Australia’s top bands are uniting under the NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET banner as part of a global push for environmental justice. With extreme weather wreaking havoc on festivals and breaking records, it’s clear we need urgent action. As a not-for-profit, we rely on donations to keep this vital work alive. Every contribution helps us mobilise the music community to demand bold action. Together, we can turn up the volume on climate action and secure a safer future."
Pre-orders for Midnight Oil and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers exclusive designs are available for a 1-week period until December 9, midnight AEDT.
