One of Australia’s best known singer/songwriter/activists, John Butler, is joining our Amplify Divestment campaign.
John needs no introduction. American born, Australian raised, based in Fremantle, Butler is a leader both in Australia’s blues and roots music scene and in environmental and peace activism. A winner of many ARIA and APRA awards, he is also a successful music businessman, establishing Jarrah Records and The Seed artistic grants program.
John has put his bank, Westpac, on notice, and he tells us:
The future of energy is clean renewables. If we just put our billions into THAT technology we’d see some real and meaningful changes. That’s why I am going to pull my investment and superannuation out of Westpac if they don’t stop funding prehistoric and backward fossil fuel industries.
